Ode to a New Mother: Trade Edition
This is a gift book for new mothers. It is a beautiful, board book-style volume that both addresses the circumstantial and emotional needs of the new mother and that meets the developmental needs of her infant. I created the book to allow mothers to read something for themselves while still engaging their babies. Their reading experience is meant to nurture their fresh and blossoming bond.
Its black and white woodcut illustrations with bold red text engage infants’ inherent love of contrast while using their favorite imagery: the human face. The images themselves are both of and for new mothers—revealing intimate moments shared between mother and newborn child that are cherished but rarely captured. The book’s text is an original poem written to nourish the vulnerable new mother; the end of the book features a resource section compiled with the help of physicians designed to empower and support mothers’ new and unexpected needs in those first few weeks and months of parenting.
The book is a 112-word, 40 page, hand-bound book, measuring 6”x6” when closed. The open dimensions are 6” x 12."
